PROJECT STATEMENT

This project was for a photography class I took freshman year of college. The assignment was to take over fifty images of a single subject​ soI found myself walking the streets of Capitol hill looking for a subject. I ended up with fifty pictures of old, beautiful, dirty, disgusting door ways.

 

There are such a variety of paths we can take in life and I wanted to capture the different perspectives that exist in our world but not single subject seemed to be able to carry such a tremendous meaning. These door ways in a way, signify the opportunities we take and the paths we leave behind. You'll never know what exists beyond that particular door unless you take the step forward.

 

Our perspective is molded by the choices we make and the paths we choose in life. But not everybody will have the same opportunities that others do. Moving to the United Stated gave me opportunities that many people back in my home country will never have. There are certain doorways that are always open to me because of my race, gender, beliefs, region, etc. And there are so many doors (opportunities) that I will never have because of who I am.
